“Lemoned Bay City”, I screamed (Music Finds #33)

“Music Finds” is a series with new posts here on the blog each Wednesday. The concept is as follows:
As I listen to a lot of music, I from time to time finds a piece that sticks out, sometimes because it’s quirky, mixed two very unlikely genres, unlikely instruments, or just damn right having an awesome sound. Expect any kind of genre to appear here. These songs is what I will be sharing with you in these posts called “Music Finds”
But really it’s mostly a segment about some of my most played songs!”

First of is a tune I re-found this past Monday. It’s an remix of hide‘s “LEMONed I Scream“, in a quite different suit than the original. hide was a fan of electronic music and incorporated synths early on in his works, and also did a nice electro-ska rendition of his song “Beauty & Stupid” which I’ve linked below the first video.

But back to the first song mentioned!
I don’t remember the name of this remix, but it appeared in the “Seven Clips” commercial.

Beauty & Stupid SKA remix

From one Japanese artist to another, let’s jump from the late 90’s to the early 80’s with Junko Yagami!
黄昏のBay City” has that rich funk bass, inescapable brass and fat synths that I totally adore.
Not to forget that Junko has a real sweet voice!

And if you enjoyed that one, here’s the extended version with even more groove!

  • Oh yooou! <3

How could I not run out and get lemon ice cream. It was excellent! Found this lemon meringue version. Yummy for my tummy and yum for the ears.

That's so 90's remix my… and I don't mean that in any belittling way. That experimentalness, I miss it. Not all things need to have a reason, message or whatever except perhaps a poetic one. I like to do it so I did it.

It's no wonder I like this song in the first place. This kind of looking at things and writing something about that object but at the same time exploring feelings is very much my thing. From tree and nature to ordinary things to indescribable things. I don't know why, I've always been fascinated by that honesty. By talking indirect you sometimes talk very clear.

I expect no less than interesting from hide, he's such an influence on you so. Though I had no idea he had made a SKA version of Beauty & Stupid. Now SKA isn't my thing at all, I have no reason for this except it doesn't boil my tea at all, never have. But I do appreciate the skill all the same. Impressed, it's not easy creating your thing in another style yourself. He was talented and a bit crazy the good kind.

You can do lots of fun things with electronic music. When people don't, that is sad. I teened in a synth crowd surrounded by odd projects and dance music. I did have the idea of sharing some on a Friday perhaps.

The video for LEMONed I Scream remix is too 90's for not smiling. With that psychedelic 60's feel. Oh yeah! I'd make banana muffins for you to that. Maybe one can do a lemon frosting.

    Junko Yagami

The 80's! I don't remember much about it. But I agree the synth and bass sounds are great. Although I had to catch up to them. The cover picture is really cute! A butterfly or two are multiplying. The music is sweet a real love in the city smoothness. I like her voice, rich and assertive yet appealing with a dash of sexy.

I always enjoy the extended version! Why does it always sound like kind of a dorky joke with you? I promise they do hold deep truth. Groovy baby!

I do like this pair. They're wicked smashing!

Love the beauty of difference and never mind what others don't see.
