Kodak BW 400 CN – A black and White film for colour processing

Today I’m going to show you some pictures I took on Kodak BW 400 CN-film. This particular roll expired in 08/2016, and the film stock has since then been discontinued. The 400 CN was a pretty niche product in the film world, as it’s a monochrome (black and white) film that can be processed in C41 chemicals, in layman terms the same developer used for regular colour film, leaving Ilford XP2 as the only film left by now with the same qualities. If you happen to have an old roll and worry about it going bad – be not; this kind of film ages in much the same pattern as any other B/W-film, aka much slower than colour film.

The Kodak BW 400 CN is said to have been lent its emulsion from Kodak classic T-Max, which is a bit finer grained than their (also) classic Tri-X emulsion. The results is, for sure grains since this after all is a 400 speed film, but sharp such.

All photos taken with my Nikon F100, enjoy!

  • Black and White Sweethearts!

You show me such treasures. I’m seriously weak for black and white. I always get very sad when people only use it for displaying sadness. It’s so much more! Just as annoying as those poetry has to rhyme and is either only sad or happy. Or those abominable greeting card limericks. I think great black and white photos work a little bit like good poetry. It takes out the noise and distractions for that one focused filled moment. There should be more crossover between the two. A filled symbiosis.

I take pleasure in reading all the nerdy. I’m truly living up to that pin of mine that says: Talk nerdy to me. Yeah, please do! I guess at some point I started having lots of pins with attitude, you could call it a collection. Or a derangement. Not sure which. Anyway, so this film is developed like colour film, that’s actually quite interesting, and the same for XP2 too. Huh, I simply love learning things. I’m already far too interested in those Ilford moments. And all the while pondering this, I enjoyed these proper Kodak moments. I remember those damn commercials okay. I cannot for the life of me take Canon seriously since. I’m still waiting for those biiiig driving licenses in the future. I know they are much more; it’s just one of those ridiculous things I remember that makes me giggle at the worst of times.

I didn’t mind Kodak moments as much though. I’m also one to dig a bit of grain. I’m not glossy glossy girl. I’m more woman of grain and dirt. Texture is an underrated experience enhancer. It really should get more attention, as it adds much to the impression. For me this is comfortably grainy, adds substance and resistance, I like that. I try to write in some similar feel. Not entirely obvious maybe, who knows, but the thought is there.

The grain could also be friction. I’m erotic, so yes it’s dirty. Got to have some dear friction going on. With flowers so sensual. How can I think anything else? You make them so I want to touch, be in that moment, to feel what it is to feel that. My kind of flowers carry more than beauty they convey something, yours do and always have. Did I totally crush on your flower pictures long ago? YES. They got to be anything! It’s such an insanely cuuuute way to preserve flowers. They’re often among my favourite motifs, even though I’m far from flower lover in the classical sense. I like them, but never was I so crazy for. Like now. To get flowers stuck in a vase is too boring, to get a flower story however… or to make one up yourself, for a beloved. Dreamy! Well, if you picked or planted flowers for me that would be totally adorable. Of course! It’s all in the thought. I digress so beautifully. There’s much gesture in these flowers. And as much as I try to reason, it always ends up in the feeling of love.

Give birth to – is a thought here. It’s filled with more than one meaning as my text tends to be. In many ways conceptional. That’s a happy thought! A happy ending! Oh, I spoiled it now. You just got to shoot down this cat. Meeooow!! ;)
Oh, I might like the cats too. You know that.

you’re the black to my white
and I the black to your white
We are both innocent and guilty

    a symbiosis
    We are

    setting me on fire
    not down but risen
    from smouldering ashes

    catching flame again
    and again

    I’m words to your
    catching of light
but that might be pushing it too far

    too simple a line

    take care of your wish
suddenly you are daddy – to

    ****

att älska varandra från insidan ut
