Game Music (Music Finds #27)

Music Finds

“Music Finds” is a series with new posts here on the blog each Wednesday. The concept is as follows:
As I listen to a lot of music, I from time to time finds a piece that sticks out, sometimes because it’s quirky, mixed two very unlikely genres, unlikely instruments, or just damn right having an awesome sound. Expect any kind of genre to appear here. These songs is what I will be sharing with you in these posts called “Music Finds”
But really it’s mostly a segment about some of my most played songs!”

A continuation of my Rainy Game-post, we’re back to visiting game music for this weeks episode of Music Finds.

Let’s start off with some orchestration!

On a more programmed track (pun intended) – AoE2. I might be a bit affected by nostalgia, but I think this soundtrack still holds up to this day!  Some of my favorites are Ride, Lawrence, Ride! (18:20), Tazer (27:31) Mountain Lie On, Seamus and Chamois (49:12).

As you may know, XIII is one of my favorite games – and part of that is the music. I suggest you check out the full soundtrack if “spy’ish” thriller music is down your alley.

What did you think about this weeks finds? Tell me in the comments!

  • This weeks Music Finds focuses on game music!

  • More game music!

Hmm, to start with I’ve always been fascinated by how epic and existential all the military music is. Wargame music is by no means an exception. Often filled with pain and determination and so is this, that triumphant end is rather persuasive. What’s not to like about the music, it’s also great for writing if you’re looking to create those grand emotions. I’m kind of split when it comes to actually playing that kind of game. I’m pretty fussy; I want them to be a certain kind of way. I’m a tactician if anything, so I want that kind of challenge. That said I have played a few that is true. And I suspect I’m still a very sore loser if you beat me in the board game Memoir 44. Among things…

… oww, that tactical me… she can be horrible. I’m truly sorry for all that pain I caused. Sometimes the winning triumph got to be swallowing all your pain and walk away with eyes and mind focused only on better thing. Easier typed than done…

The Main Theme for Battlefield 1942 sounds very piratey to me. If I didn’t know what it was from I’d guessed it was from a pirate movie. It got that pillage and plunder boat feeling about it. Also fairly epic in style, a bit more playful but without that triumphant ending. The end is more of a hint of stormy seas to come. Not that surprising for a main theme, but nice touch either way.

Age of Empires 2, not at all bad music. But then it has that story feel I’m so proudly weak for. Not sure if I have any particular favourite parts, but I think one can spot some influences from this in your music. Or am I just imagining things? It has a very live life feeling to it (that your music has too). Like different aspects and fragments from your path put into music. That certainly appeal to me.

The XIII music sounds very much like a soundtrack to a 90’s thriller. I dislike (please read LOVE) you for sharing this! What a reminder; I used to enjoy thrillers very much during the 90’s and into the 00’s, not sure where I stand on that today. I haven’t really watched many thrillers in a long time, apart from old favourites but there’s nostalgia there. Funnily enough that thriller bug is something me and my Mom has or had in common. Where did that realisation come from?
Okay fine… I confess I ended up listening to all that was up on YT… Gosh darn, yeah I can see the appeal in the music and now I’m even more curious about the game. Why do you keep doing this to me? Please, never stop! I like the Mission 4 music and most of the other ones too, but a mentionable like would be Mission 32 because it has that classic thriller build up intensity that I just… mmm, well that do rock this pirate’s boat. ;)
