AREKU’s favorite songs as a kid

Today I got reminded of one of my favorite songs as a child (around 1998-2001) so today I present to you:
A selection of AREKU’s favorite songs as a kid!

Richard Wagner – “Ritt der Walküren”
Jussi Björling – “Till Havs”
坂本九 – 「上を向いて歩こう」
Hot Butter – “Popcorn”
Arne Quick – “Rosen”

Examples of each song follows below.

Richard Wagner – “Ritt der Walküren”
The feeling I got while listening to this was. and is, nothing but pure intentions to rule the world. And though Wagner is far from my favorite composer, this piece in particular still have a place in my heart.

Jussi Björling – “Till Havs”
This is one of the first songs I actually remembers hearing. And what a song to remember!
Jussi is nothing but a national treasure, and his edition of the poem written by Jonatan Reuter and composed by Gustaf Nordqvist is forever a favorite of mine. Jussi was one of the greatest singers of Sweden in my opoinion.
Here he performs “Till Havs” at Swedish tv in 1953:

坂本九 – 「上を向いて歩こう」
Oh Kyu, how much I probably owe you.. This was my first contact with Japanese music, and what a journey it have been since then! The feeling, and lyrics, is nothing but heartbreaking, and that is what probably made my fall so deep for this song many years ago, even though I had no idea of what he was singing.
This song was dubbed “Sukiyaki” in the west.

Hot Butter – “Popcorn”

This is one of the first songs I actually remembers hearing. And maybe, just maybe, is it what later lighted my interest for electronic music. Nontheless, it was a joy each time my father decided to play this LP for me. There’s something about the melody, the synths, that totally put me in trance.

Arne Quick – “Rosen”
Finally, the song that made me make this list. A song made in the mid 1960’s, that ever since my childhood easily gets stuck in my head. The lyrics are somewhat cheesy, yet timeless as heartbreaks will never go out of fashion.
The first lines. freely translated to English by me:
(Oh how it is) When one is trying to forget the sadness of this moment,
it seems easier to be dreaming while awake
To forget that my happiness now flown away,
and that you never got my rose
