19 music tips (Music Finds #20 – Master Post)

20 episodes of Music Finds

“Music Finds” is a not so longer new series, where I initially aimed to present one or more new Music Finds each Wednesday, and since then been doing so for 19 weeks straight. Last week I took a break, but I am now back.
The concept remains the same:
As I listen to a lot of music, I from time to time finds a piece that sticks out; sometimes because it’s quirky, mixed two very unlikely genres, unlikely instruments, or just damn right having an awesome sound. Most often it may be songs I just have listened a lot to the week or day before. Expect any kind of genre to appear here. These songs is what I’ve shared, and will continue to be sharing with you in these posts called “Music Finds”

But really it’s mostly a segment about some of my most played songs!”

Episode 20, that’s a minor milestone! Thank you all for the continues support,  it means a lot!
For this post, I thought I’ll continue the concept of the previous posts, but adding something new to them. This way we’ll get to re-live the previous posts with new conten! So let’s go~

#1 – Steampunk

My first post in this series was #1 – Steampunk Sing-along, where I featured  Steam Powered Giraffe with ther song “Brass Goggles“. To continue on the Steam Punk-genre, I would avidly like to present Abney Park.
A bit less sing a long than the Giraffe mentioned above, but very musically evolved!
And may I say that they seems to have a very cosy studio?

#2 – Korean Idols

A timely replacement for K-Pop Monday or just a confession of my growing fascination with K-pop? I rather not tell.
But for sure this wasn’t the last time you’ll see Korean music on this list. So let’s give you a new find outside of the featured pieces:
N.Flying Awesome (기가 막혀)
FTISLANDI wish (좋겠어)

Well, I’ve mentioned this song before, but never displayed it in a post.

#3 – Reggae meets metal

This was a  truly interesting mix featuring Skindred which I would like to continue on:

#4 – Japanese Anti-Hero

Just to show the versatility of this band

#5 – Post Rock

Ah, post rock. A big inspiration for my latest release “ONE to NONE”. Here’s another find, along with my release below it:

AREKU – ONE to NONE

#6 – A French Danse

Why change on a winning concept? Here’s the previously featured song, but now performed with live strings.
This song still gives me goosebumps.

#7 – The Visualist from Oz

I was late to the party about finding this Visual Kei-band called -OZ-, but that should not discourage me from sharing more of their work now! After sharing the song in the original post, this one was the one I found myself listening the most to:

#8 – Gotta have that oumpf

Look at that, Kpop makes its return even before the 10 posts-mark! I’ll continue on the oumpf here, but instead of Korean, I’ll head over to Taiwan for this lovely singer that is Jolin Tsai. Despite that mostly of her discography seems to be more of the slowfox kind, this song was the first I encountered, and it have a lot of OUMPF,

#9 – Oldies but Goldies

This could be seen as a dipping my toes before the “Nostalgia for no Reason”-post, but more of that later.  The Oldies-post featured some of my older favorites of Japanese music, and I’ll continue further on that track by presenting this, my other favorite song by La’Cryma Christi

#10 – Lynch. the devil

Well, here’s more of the same find!

#11 – Some J to your Rock

I still know nothing about this band, but they DO have catchy songs – complete with a little of that classical sheep vibrato!

#12 – Nostalgia for no reason

This is one of my favorite Music Finds-posts so far, so it won’t be easy adding something to it. Yet there’s more and more songs that I could think of that gives me the feeling of sentimentality for no reason, so while waiting for Part 2 of the same, have a small sneak peak, featuring some Phantasmagoria:

#13 – Pop and Black metal

Since Black Metal is highly unrepresented here, let’s get some!

#14 – Fragile Voices

#15 – My introduction to Japanese mucis

This is a chapter on itself to be continued, but here’s some more!

#16 – MUCC

Well worth mentioning, this is a strong piece of any mix-CD or karaoke-list.

#17 – Classical, kpop and Disco

Another piece by Fauré

#18 – New (old) records

A post consisting of MUCC and Dir en grey on CD, what’s there to add? Maybe just a little bit more modern Diru, “covering” an old song:

#19 – Phantasmagoria

I found a mix tape, lost in thought. Here’s another song, not being them, neither lost, but on the same mix-CD!

This wraps it up for now, we’ve reached number 20 of Music Finds! I hope that you’re excited for more posts to come!

A list of every previous episode of Music Finds:

  • Thank you for 20 lovely posts!

    #1 – Steampunk

Aww, it’s not enough you start this fun music find thing, you start it off with Steampunk. That’s not fair, I could never resist that! ^^
First I got to say I enjoyed Steam Powered Giraffe a lot. And I think to myself how do you top that? Well, you could always share a steampunk song called Airship Pirate that just happens to feature a violin ey. I love it! Whispery voice, pirate theme and a violin. Totally smiling writing about it. And woow, that studio looks very cosy.

The whole album Lost Horizons is worth a listen, it’s like a dream. With songs like Herr Drosselmyers Doll for that haunting E.T.A Hoffman feel and She to bring out the caring side and at the end some Post-Apocalypse Punk.

    #2 – Korean Idols

Either reason works. The Korean trail is fun! Especially the attitude songs like this. I so enjoy all the styles in this video. No I do not have a crazy punk hairstyle ever, of course I do and so I can’t but like it. I enjoy that different styles have a place in this and not just the typical girl, I think that is rather important. And ratatata’s can’t be resisted.

    #3 – Reggae meets metal

Skindred kicks ass! Found them at the same time as Sepultura’s Roorback with Derrick Green vocals was a thing. Bullet the blue sky… This music mix is too good to miss. Real glad you gave Skindred some well deserved attention. And you just picked out my two favourite songs as well. Cool! Talk about being somebody.

    #4 – Japanese Anti-Hero

Heck that is one massive disco song. The video is awesome, with the tree and the crazy clothes. Totally want those wings! The only thing is I really don’t like clowns. It involves horrid paintings and pushy grown-ups telling me to enjoy them because they’re fun. Scary shit. The song has got a wonderful beat and I truly like the question themed lyrics. Not to mention the choir in the chorus, so nice. Old horror flick feel. Well it’s death disco.

    #5 – Post Rock

Oh yes, post rock is a delight. So good when you need to clear your mind, sleep or focus. So very inspiring. one day you will teach me to let go of my fears is so future optimistic if that’s even a thing. I like the suspense at the start building up this song for something. Oh yes!

Got to share my brilliant save from the other day.
My friend Vicky wrote in a response to me: “I can’t imagine you listening to something that ain’t Metal, Rock or Punk.”
On which my offended (because it’s true) feelings responded: “I listen to post rock too.” That totally saved it right? Anyway…

You just had to sneak in your own song. I expect nothing less from you. In fact I’d be sad without it. I guess I’m going to write about ONE to NONE.

What do I think about it. Wow… everything. I mean it’s a song that transgresses from one thing to another kind of intertwining all. This is oddly enough a let go of everything and calm down song for me. It starts with what sounds like your other song Alice’s Winter Box and then transgresses from there. The title is kind of sad to go from one to none, yet the music isn’t just sad especially not at the end where it goes into chaos kind of. Follows an emotional path, good and bad. I think that is why I find it so relaxing. It’s a get it all out of you. Comforting. To live in full. I can be sad to it so I can get it out of my system and be happy again. Because it’s impossible to stay in the one emotional spot in life as well as in this song. I think that is why I love listening to it when I need to rest or rethink something. It’s that whisper: “everything will be fine”. Therefore I can’t find a part I like better, for it’s the whole experience that does it.

    #6 – A French Danse

Why indeed change something so good. The string version gives even bigger goosebumps. Sometimes I just go danse, danse, danse, danse, danse, danse or vole, vole, vole, vole suddenly for no reason. No stopping this song whatsoever. I have listened through a couple more of her songs and they’re all good, I’m really taken with her voice, it works so well with the french pronunciation. But out of all I have heard this is the best one by far. Throw away the pictures and fly!

#7 – The Visualist from Oz

Even better! One can’t ignore anything named OZ. Of course there is ruby red and emerald green on that cover. Yeah, my colourful stone thingy is very real. I like when you mix in colourful stones, especially in those older styles. No surprise there. Why am I talking about this? Off topic she goes, let’s find the road back Toto! Okay music, yes catchy I can catch all kinds of feel. I like the guitars in this. It got a promise kind of feel that is impossible to resist.

#8 – Gotta have that oumpf

Oh Taiwanese oumpf! Never had the pleasure before. That video! See, I need to get glasses. How else will people know I’m a booknerd? That was totally super cute. Trust you to find a video with Skunk Masters for this pirate. Not sure about omnipresent scent, but at times it’s very Lushy-esque. I like the attitude of the I can do it all-ness. And of course the whole The Sims feel, not forgotten that either. Haven’t played any in ages though.

    #9 – Oldies but Goldies

La’Cryma Christi, so not over them. They’re just so looovely you kind of want to hug this song it’s so sweet and perfect. This is I wanna walk with you music. To quote another song, “so damn good it hurts”. Walk with me, because now I know I belong to you.

    #10 – Lynch. the devil
More of the night. A time for everything beautiful. Catchy song and the night will never ever end. Consider me fallen

    #11 – Some J to your Rock

This is my favourite heading! ^^ And I’m digging the decadent play in this video. Forbidden fruit in a cage, woman in red with scars. As sad as it is I kind of find it comforting too. And in the end the cage is empty. I like! The music is soft very nice contrast to the dark images.

#12 – Nostalgia for no reason

Oh yes this was so much fun! <3
Aww, more Phantasmagoria. Great mischievous song. Oh, that word is pretty like pixy. Phantasmagoria songs so should be in part 2 of this. See I'm assuming there will be one now kind of. Because it would be great fun.

#13 – Pop and Black metal
Confession time, I haven't seriously listened to black metal in too long. Thank you! This reminds me of one of the Deathspell Omega records I have. Can't for the life of me remember which one. Regardless, this became such a nice nostalgia trip. I have this feeling I have talked Deathspell with you before, I seem to remember taking out those records and listening while studying after I talked about them. What an odd but charming person I am at times. It has the same chanting church music feel that those anti-christian pagans seem to be so good at. Let's get back at those impure!

    #14 – Fragile Voices

I've never thought of Winehouse as a fragile voice, but this song sure seem to be fragile. I really like when you switch my opinion a bit. It's good for me. Not that I'm a big listener of her songs but isn't that just the point. Do something you don't usually do just because you should at times do just that. I kind of don't like it like it a lot.

Not so much on the kitchen floor as in any place I stood still for a moment. Thought of you, on all those empty benches, on the crowded tram or alone in bed. Anger and shame eating my inside.

#15 – My introduction to Japanese music

This! After that. Oh you're doing this on purpose. <3
First I can't get over their 90's style, absolutely love it to bits still. Crazy in that arty fun way. This song is so special to me it's hard to put it into words really. But if you ever wanted to tell someone you still love them, a picture of yourself and a reference to this song is probably one of the most romantic gestures there ever could be. No anger, no pressure only a reminder that those deep and haunting emotions still exist however unworthy you might feel. That is some deep and earnest love.

    #16 – MUCC

MUCC, well they're musical catharsis. When things hit you, MUCC it out. A very good song too. And the video is simple, but oh so very effective. You need a good tantrum song every now and then. The beat in this, it hit hard and where it should. I'm so in midst of MUCC craziness, just love it, so going on lists.

#17 – Classical, kpop and Disco

Fauré again, spoiling my ears proper. Can't go wrong with classical. The feeling of piano and cello can't be anything else but calming. Real beautiful piece and it allows you to dream. Another time, meaning historical isn't always escaping the now nor looking back only, but an expression of gratitude to things that have been and is not forgotten. I like to be reminded of the passed at times, because future would not exist without it. This is really that kind of curious I want to explore a museum kind of a piece, I like it. Taps into my curiosity in the best possible way, where future and past can both be part of my now and progression.

    #18 – New (old) records

Good and cruel. Some real swell bass in that one. Still looks good live I have to say. But now I can't unsee that comparison to MUCC and compared to them this seems bland.

    #19 – Phantasmagoria

That's simply not fair! Phantasmagoria and Stella Maria on the same mix-CD. It would take anyone out of the blue for sure. I have enjoyed hearing some older 90's sound that I never heard before. Kind of nostalgic in sound but no memories just a sound that is pleasing and teasing.

What can I say you treat us good!
And tell the best story in songs.

Zuper excited for things to come! ٩( ˃́▿˂̀ )۶
